Be careful what you wish for....
(yes that is underwear on her head :)
Have you ever held a baby and thought (or said) "I wish they'd stay little forever." I've said that many times. They are so cuddly, smell so good, so soft. (you now see why we have 5 children :) Anyway I got a call yesterday from Dr. Wood (endocrinologist). Another side note....the specialist at Devos are the best!!! What MD calls on a Sunday and spends large amounts of time talking about my child. THANK YOU!!! I'll try and condense his version...her growth hormone (that we all make so we grow) is ZERO. That's no good. Also her cortisol levels (steroid levels) are off. When she gets ill her body does not know enough to make extra steroids to get her through the illness. So people are thinking, "oh no, not something else." Actually this isn't bad. Steve and I feel it is a huge part of the puzzle that has been missing. Best of all, this all stems from 1 mutated gene before she was born. So we might have a few different issues, but there is one cause. YEAH more answers!!!!! The best part, all of these "issues" can be fixed. Brooke's feet are so small I told the MD she won't be able to walk on them. He said, "just wait til I'm finished, you'll have, yet another, big Koeman girl." I told Steve we better cuddle her now, her baby days are soon over. The cortisol levels, we just keep her on steroids until we figure that one out. Her bone marrow transplant, we just wait that one out. We got nothing but time on our hands so we are ready. Steve and I look at everything that could have been wrong. But her heart works great, her brain seems fine. She's got personality, she's got attitude and a heart to love unconditionally. She's going to be just fine :) Her next appointment at Devos is May 10
It looks like my surgery is scheduled for May 4. Obviously that might be subject to change. I'm waiting on a time. The 3 older girls had a sleepover at my mom's Friday night, Steve was working so it was just the twins and I. I thought, Ok, now is my chance to really ponder all this, and figure out if it bothers me. I thought maybe I'd been to busy to care. But I came to the realization, I am really ok with this. It did bother me before I had the diagnosis. It consumed me for awhile. I knew something was wrong but not what. So I gave it to God and haven't taken it back (which is not like me. I like control and to fix things myself). So, I'm once again in the planning stages. May 4 works out great from a work standpoint, kid standpoint and from a farmer husband standpoint. If the weather man cooperates it might even rain (you gotta be married to a farmer to understand that :) I got help from all angles so, let's do this! Leah and I even bought a scarf to cover my neck scar. (Yes I am vain at times. It's easier to hide a scar for awhile than explain to patients at work what happened. I'm there to help them, they don't need to hear my stories :) Steve said if the cookies keep coming in, he will be a "very fat man very soon." HAHAHA!! All humor aside, we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Physical health means nothing without spiritual health. You all help us stay spiritual healthy with your help and prayers. We know God will see us through. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

When God is ready for those teeny-tiny feet to walk, you'll be amazed at where they carry your baby girl!! We prayed for a LONG LONG time that our girl would walk on her teeny-tiny feet, and miraculously, she did. And now we don't remember the days of non-walking kids... :0)
