Trigger words!
Do you have words you don't like? I do. I don't like the word slacks or blouse but I have no reason why, I just think they are funny words. When we were inpatient I really disliked the word "tube feeding." I fought it tooth and nail. To me it signified "sick" and my daughter wasn't sick. I got over it when it was about survival. I dislike the word "chronic lung." After being in the pediatric world for so long, I know that isn't a good diagnosis. But Brooke has that diagnosis and she's proving she can handle it. Well today Early On (a state program) was over to evaluate Brooke in her developmental skills. She was cognitively good (smart cookie :), fine motor skills coming along, but physically she's behind (obviously). She is physically at 9 months of age. So they were excited she qualified for "Special Education." I mentally understand the excitement, I likewise, want the help for her. But I looked at my husband with tears in my eyes and said, "I don't like that word." He just smiled at me. (he humors my silliness) It takes me awhile to process things. I believe in my heart Brooke is exactly how God wants her. She's amazing!! I don't consider her different than any of our other girls. She just does things differently. Steve and I are both aware how sick she is. If she gets an illness, we know we have serious trouble. But we don't think about that. I always try and focus on the positive so I get frustrated when I let words get in my way. So I guess my point in all this is......my daughter is "tube fed", she is "sick", her lungs are better than anyone expected but if they want her to have "chronic lung" that's fine with me, and she is now enrolled in "special education." :) She will however, NEVER wear slacks or a blouse :) Thanks for humoring me tonight :)

You are not alone! I, too, despise the words slacks and blouse. I also hate the word moist. Yuck. This thing called parenting comes with so many unique challenges and joys and unknown stuff. Even though we don't have words like "special education" floating around our kitchen, we have other ones that show their ugly faces at times. I love how you've embraced your situaton and allowed God the control. With Him; the "words" don't seem to matter so much. But you already know that!!
Shelly, You amaze me! Your ability to express openly your inner feelings whether silly or not in such a way that we all can relate and learn is priceless. I'm sure that I'll think of you & your family everytime I hear the word blouse or slacks.
So thats what those containers are for, storing children! :-)

Shelly...I'm with you on slacks and blouse...those two words are not in my vocab! I know that "special education" is a word I don't like myself. Quenton is special no doubt. And I love him just like his brothers. I have not found a better term other than "adapted learning" is how I choose to think about it. "Autism spectrum disorder" there is another one! It isn't a rainbow! "Asperger"....really that one makes others giggle and say what? But it is what it is! sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. I think someone lied. When words become labels they can! Our lives were chosen before we got here. That is what gives he faith that all is right even thought it some days all feels so wrong. Love Julie
ps it you ever see my boys in slacks or blouses I may not wanna know! ha ha
So many words I have come to hate as well. God works on us in that, I am convinced. HUGS to you all, and kiss that sweet girl for me!
