Unsettling News.....

Today was a busy day. I got to go on a field trip with Megan which was so fun, and my mom took Brooke to clinic. Dr. Mageed called me and said Brooke's test results were back from Mayo regarding her thymus (the gland that makes T cells). Before we were discharged that number was normal, which amazed him and he was so happy about. So we did the peg tube in her stomach (because she could heal well) and we got discharged to home. Well today the numbers were very low. He called Mayo and come to find out the original first number they gave us was not right. Brooke is not making her own T cells, but Megan's cells are caring her through. So what does that mean.......1st he said we have to be careful with her (more so than he first thought). No camping and she is much more susceptible to infection. 2nd another bone marrow transplant is in our future. This didn't surprise Steve and I, we just hoped it was further out. Dr. Mageed said 1-2 months, if she is healthy and her tube is healed we'll try again with chemo this time. As hard as that was to swallow, by getting the wrong results we got to take her home, love her and watch her thrive with her sisters. God has protected her thus far and we BOLDLY pray He will continue. Next week we go to clinic Monday, Wednesday and Friday for IV's to boost her immune system and to see the surgeon that put in her peg tube.

On another note I got a good laugh today (which is always needed). My girls, bless them, are having a garage sale, and walked to the corner to put up their signs. On their walk back they decided to walk through the field, which is muddy. They all got stuck. Sank right on down, shoes stuck in the mud. I ran out with my camera, as Ashley was crying and Leah got unstuck was running in the mud to help her sisters. Much to their surprise it wasn't just mud! Pig manure was spread last week. They stunk BAD!!! Megan told me I was mean for laughing and taking pictures. So, we may have gotten unsettling news today, but my girls made me laugh and realize why God gave me this wonderful life that I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Megan upset :)
Leah and Ash Showing off.
Leah helping her sisters.

Please help us in boldly praying for Brooke's health and our girls understanding. Last summer Steve and I felt the girls got jipped on their vacations and it looks like this summer will be the same, even though they have not complained once. Thank you all!!!

I'm so glad you could go on a field trip today and that you could laugh at (or should I say with:) your girls getting stuck! You are both amazing parents and the girls are so blessed to have you in their life! We will pray boldly that Brooke continues to get stronger!!

Your family has been in our thoughts and prayers. I continue to see Gods hand in your lives. His strength given..as you care for your family...His joy given as you laugh about getting stuck in pig manure..His hand in caring for Brooke as He uses His chosen to care for her. The gifts you are giving your girls...your faith in action..your trust in God and..your surrendering..is priceless. So we "Fix Our Eyes on Jesus"..and He holds us..In His Grip..barb

Oh my Shelly, I am sitting here laughing out loud and crying at the same time. I love how you write out just what you feel and make it real. We had a very similar thing happen once with Darlene and WHitney and they still talk about it today!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is the sinking in the field and Mom went to the rescue as they sunk up to their thighs and the one girl could get out and get me and the other was so stuck that she couldn't get out and the both of them had on boots that stayed in the mud and I had to retrieve them and I wasnt' as happy as you because I told them stay out of the field, and I sprayed them down with the garden hose in the driveway! Years later maybe 10, our dog dug up whitneys little doll that had tree roots growing through it. She dropped it that day and it was lost for a long time, so I tell them next time this could happen to you. So Mallory and Natalie are scared to death to go out in the slop when we say stay on the cement today! HAHAHAHA!!!
So sorry to hear about the T-cell issue, but sometimes we are just thankful for mistakes aren't we? I am so glad you had the chance to be home together as a family and the surgery was successful so far. I figure God has his hand in this and if we would have had everything work out the way the Dr.'s would have wanted then you would be up at the Hospital with no feeding tube and no family at home. So...now we will pray for them to figure out what is next to heal little Brooke!!!! I know all about the million dollar baby thing!! We have no idea what $$$$ amounts are out their for Natalie & we don't have time to worry about it either, I have figured out some of the meds for the year before, and that alone will blow your mind. They are worth every penny and more, I tell Natalie she is priceless!!! This is the first time I visited your page on my own computer, Darlene has shown it to me in the past and that is seldom, so now you will probably hear from me more often. Let me know if I bother you too much :). We love you guys and hope and pray for your family and Health for Brooke! Etc..........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Love, Mary Jo Draisma
